Machine translation post-editing

The speed of the machine, the accuracy of a linguist

Machine translation converts large volumes of text in seconds, at a low cost, but it misses nuance and makes mistakes a reader notices. Post-editing closes that gap: a trained linguist reviews every sentence the engine produced and corrects meaning, terminology, style and context.

The result is a translation that is grammatically correct and also carries the idioms, cultural cues and tone that computers miss: a dependable way to produce high-quality content in many languages, faster.

Post-editing is a profession, with its own standard

ISO 18587 defines how machine output should be post-edited and what a qualified post-editor must know, and our MTPE process follows it from the first file to the last.

Our post-editors are experienced translators first. They know where engines typically fail, from numbers and negations to gender agreement in Arabic, and they check every sentence against the source, not just the output.

Better input, better output

Much of the quality of an MTPE project is decided before any machine output exists. We choose the engine that performs best for your language pair and subject, load your glossary and do-not-translate list, and clean up the source where needed.

Pre-editing matters more than most people think. Splitting long sentences, fixing typos, spelling out unclear abbreviations and making terms consistent in the source removes whole classes of machine errors before they appear.

How MTPE helps your business

Higher standards

Clear, professional translations that are fit for business use.

Consistency

Editors keep language and style uniform, protecting your brand across every translation.

Time savings

Faster than translating from scratch, so localized content is released sooner.

Affordability

A budget-friendly option for large volumes, without giving up human review.

How MTPE works

The machine does the heavy lifting; people make every decision that matters.

  1. 01

    Content check

We look at your content, language pairs and purpose, and confirm MTPE is the right choice.

  2. 02

    Engine and glossary

We choose the engine that performs best for your language pair and subject, and load your approved terms.

  3. 03

    Machine draft

The engine translates the full text in minutes, keeping tags and formatting intact.

  4. 04

    Post-editing

A linguist corrects meaning, terminology, style and context, at the light or full level you chose.

  5. 05

    Quality checks

Automated checks and a review catch numbers, omissions and inconsistent terms.

  6. 06

    Delivery

You receive the final files, and the edited translations are saved to improve your next project.

An English sentence is drafted into Arabic by machine translation; a linguist strikes out a mistranslated word, writes the correct one and replaces a second word with the proper financial term; the quality score rises from 96.4 to 99.1, clearing the pass mark of 98.

Quality measured, not assumed

Machine output varies by language, subject and engine, so we measure it on your own content, before and during the project.

A pilot on your own text

We post-edit a sample first and share the result, so you see the quality before committing to volume.

Editing effort tracked

We track how much of the machine output our editors had to change. When the effort is too high, human translation is the honest recommendation.

Errors sorted by type

Reviewers classify issues as accuracy, terminology, fluency, style or locale, so each fix goes to the root cause.

Feedback into the setup

Recurring errors become new glossary entries and engine settings, so the next batch starts from a better draft.

Light or full post-editing

Two levels, chosen by what the text is for. We assess a sample and recommend one.

Level 1

Light

Accurate and understandable, for internal or high-volume content.

  • Meaning errors corrected
  • Omissions and additions fixed
  • Key terminology checked

Level 2

Full

Reads as if written by a person: ready to publish.

  • Everything in light post-editing
  • Style and fluency polished
  • Glossary and style guide applied
  • Cultural adaptation

Human translation

For slogans, literary texts and high-stakes legal or medical content, we recommend translating from scratch.

  • Contracts and patents

Is your content a good fit for MTPE?

MTPE works best for large volumes of informative, repetitive or time-sensitive content. Creative and high-risk texts still deserve a human translator from the first word.

Not sure? Send us a sample and we will tell you which option gives you the best balance of quality, speed and cost.

Advantages of our MTPE service

Three reasons companies choose us to post-edit their machine translation.

01

Precision

Experienced linguists examine and polish every machine-translated sentence, through several stages of editing and review, until it is true to the original.

02

Natural flow

Machines handle the straightforward parts; our editors restore tone, style and cultural detail, so the text reads as if it was written in that language.

03

Best value

Combining the latest translation technology with human skill keeps prices low without lowering quality, even for very large volumes.

What you receive with every MTPE project

Post-editing is more than a corrected file. Every project leaves you with assets that make the next one faster.

The file in its original format

Word, Excel, XML, JSON or your platform's format, ready to publish.

An updated translation memory

Every approved sentence is saved and reused on future projects.

An updated glossary

New terms agreed during the project, added and shared with you.

Notes on the source

Unclear or inconsistent passages flagged, so you can fix them at the source.

A short quality note

Where useful, what was changed and why, and what to watch in the next batch.

A plan for the next batch

Light or full post-editing, or human translation, recommended for each type of content.

When to use machine translation

Engines such as Google Translate and DeepL are useful wherever speed and cost matter more than polish: e-commerce product descriptions and reviews, a first reading of legal or medical documents, internal communication across languages.

Post-editing becomes essential the moment accuracy matters: agreements, patents, anything published under your brand. That is where our editors turn a fast draft into a reliable translation.

Use the machine for the first draft. Never for the final word.
Certified quality

Standards behind every project

Our processes follow international standards for translation services, machine translation post-editing, quality management and cyber security, so every project is handled with the same care, whatever its size.

Standards are not a certificate on the wall for us: they decide who works on your text, how it is checked and how your files are protected.

Questions

Something else? A project manager replies within thirty minutes in office hours.

Is MTPE as good as human translation?

Full post-editing reaches publishable quality for most content. Creative and legal texts still deserve full human translation.

How much can I save?

It depends on the content and the engine's output. We assess a sample and quote accordingly.

Which engines do you use?

We choose the engine per language pair and subject, including neural and LLM-based systems.

Light or full post-editing?

Light makes the text accurate and understandable; full makes it read as if written by a person.

Can you post-edit translations we already have?

Yes. Send us your machine output with the source, and we will assess it and post-edit to the level you choose.

Is my content safe?

Your files are handled only by the team on your project, and we sign an NDA on request.

Can MTPE be used for legal or medical content?

Yes, with full post-editing and a second review. For the most sensitive texts, such as contracts to be signed or patient instructions, we may recommend human translation instead.

How much faster is MTPE?

It depends on the language pair and the quality of the source, but because the editor starts from a draft rather than a blank page, large projects are usually delivered noticeably sooner.

Which languages work best with MTPE?

Pairs with a lot of training data, such as English with major European languages, Arabic, Chinese or Japanese, give the strongest drafts. For less common pairs we test a sample first.

Can you use our translation memory and glossary?

Yes. Your approved translations and terms improve the machine draft and guide the editor, which raises quality and keeps your terminology consistent.
